Roof Coverings

Most homes built in the UK since the early fifties are covered with some type of concrete roof tile, which offer great protection to your home. But after 20 to 25 years the initial protection can wear off due to natural erosion leaving the concrete tiles increasingly porous.

The UK endures over 1.1 meters of rainfall annually; this means that the loading for a normal roof is calculated at 6.6 lb or 3 kg of additional weight for every square metre of roof when it is raining. Over time this will increase because the tile is acting like a sponge, absorbing and retaining more water as years go by.

Common Roof Problems

An initial sign that you have porous tiles is moss or lychen growth. In the case of moss growth, this compounds the problem as the moss acts like a 'wet blanket', holding the water, allowing it to penetrate the porous tiles through to the battens and timbers below.

The Pro-Tech process with our unique microporous coating containing insulating ceramic microspheres forms a breathable skin that protects your roof tile from further erosion whilst also providing fungicidal and colour-fast properties.
